Makers naturally invent clever fixes for everyday annoyances, like buttons that are out of reach, on the wrong side of the room, or placed in inconvenient spots. What Up TK Here has created a clever little contraption called the Button Presser that simply sits there waiting for a signal to go ahead and then extends a lever to press buttons when needed.



The Button Presser is divided into two parts: one sits directly next to the button and does the actual pressing, while the other is a handheld trigger that allows you to press the button from a distance. Both make use of ESP32 microcontrollers that interact directly with one another via the ESP-NOW protocol, which simplifies things so you don’t need to be connected to your home Wi-Fi network.

To assemble the Button Presser, first print out a few pieces using your 3D printer. The presser unit includes a bespoke frame that clamps onto the device with the button, as well as a hobby servo motor that drives a lever down to press the button firmly before returning to its original position. These parts are manufactured in ABS plastic using a printer similar to the Bambu Lab P2S, and include a small spherical shell, a center plate to hold all of the electronics, as well as a top cover that is glued together.

The trigger parts fits within a small spherical container that resembles an electronic Pokeball of sorts. When you click the huge button on the trigger, it sends the signal wirelessly, and the illuminated button confirms power while addding a satisfying feedback when used. Both pieces are powered by USB-C ports, so charging or running them continuously is not an issue.

When you test the Button Presser, you’ll notice that it works well with a variety of buttons, including key switches, controller inputs, and computer mouse clickers. The lever presses the button just right, neither too hard or too soft, and the clamp holds securely. The distance limit is between 15 and 20 meters, which is sufficient for most rooms.

The code and design files are available on GitHub for anybody to examine or alter; however, the creator emphasizes that the files are only a starting point, and you will most likely need to tweak your own ESP32 boards to get them to operate properly. Makers can also modify the frame to accommodate a certain button or device.
