Star Wars: Galactic Racer Features Dust Trails, Broken Engines, and Racing Through the Outer Rim

Star Wars Galactic Racer Reveal
Star Wars: Galactic Racer, developed by Fuse Games (creators of some of the best high-stakes racing moments in Need for Speed and Burnout), will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2026. Prepare to enter as Shade, a competent (if little rough-around-the-edges) pilot on a mission to create a reputation for himself and settle old scores in the Galactic League. This is the subterranean racing circuit where the Empire’s collapse has allowed for some rule-bending.

You begin as an outsider in the Outer Rim, a lawless region of the galaxy where the desperate and dubious congregate to earn a livelihood. You have to scrape by on the small-time heats, but Shade has a desire for success and the determination to work his way up to the League’s top ranks.

Matt Webster, Fuse’s co-founder, defines the journey as all about survival: making wise decisions regarding your starting vehicle, tailoring upgrades to your driving style, and selecting events that will either promote your reputation or land you in hot water with some nasty competition. Imagine leaning into a bend on a speederbike, feeling the brakes lock hard before you slam the throttle out of a curve, or gliding a skim speeder low over Sentinel One’s poisonous acid rivers, where the fumes are so dangerous for your engine if you stay too long. The goal is to establish a balance between risk and return. Make no mistake, each run is unique; track paths split off in all directions, and one false move may send you straight into a ravine or lead you down a cunning shortcut littered with takedowns from your opponents.

Rivals add some grit to the racing, especially in the campaign when you’re up against Kestar, a merciless veteran who will stop at nothing to defeat you. You have to outmaneuver not only the course, but also a person who isn’t afraid to use devious tactics to knock you from your perch. Then there’s Sebulba, the cunning old Dug cheat from those Boonta Eve great tracks, who sneaks into your trailer with a sly little glance implying unfinished business between him and Shade. We know the Fuse team has a soft spot for Sebulba, and the film suggests that his participation in this game will be more significant than you might imagine.

Multiplayer allows you to race cross-class against your friends’ bikes while riding your speeder. Reputations are on the line in PvP lobbies, and wins will add to your legend, but a streak of losses could keep you out of the truly elite events. Make every session count, because you never know when things will start to go awry.

Planets are picked from the furthest reaches of the Star Wars universe, each one a playground of risks and hidden threats. The Graveyard of Giants on Jakku extends on forever, with boundless dunes studded with the rusty hulks of lost ships and incredible sandstorms that reduce vision to near-zero, requiring you to take bold lines to avoid being wiped out. The icy spires of Ando Prime require accuracy and care when drifting to avoid cracking through the frozen lakes, while Sentinel One’s wasteland is a stifling fog of fumes that will sap your ship’s speed if it overheats.

The tracks evolve with the underground feel of the speed racing league, with pilots carving out unsanctioned paths while keeping an eye out for patrolling guards, and the weather changing on you mid-race from pristine clear skies to a thick strangling fog. In Fuse, you get to build a fresh track every lap, which is largely inspired by run-based design so replays never get monotonous. You also get new abilities to unlock on each lap, such as a speed boost or a shield to protect yourself, and see how you string them together to win. The excitement builds up in those last laps, your engine screaming as you weave through a pack of rival drivers just one nudge away from victory.

Customization keeps everything going even when you aren’t racing. Shade’s garage is where you keep the parts you’ve scavenged from your victories, like an aero kit to cut around corners or a reinforced hull to slam into your opponents without taking a hit. The pieces you choose reveal who you are as a player, whether you choose a light bike for single sprints or a heavy pod for clearing the pack. You can also create alliances with other crews in multiplayer to pool your improvements for team events, but don’t get too comfortable because anyone might turn against you and take your spot in the finals.
