Chris Diamantopoulos spoke about starring in the new movie “Bull Run” opposite Tom Blyth. It was released in theaters today via Vertical.
The synopsis is: In the wilds of Wall Street, one junior banker discovers that the only thing more dangerous than billion-dollar deals are the men signing them.
“Bull Run” follows Bobby Sanders (Tom Blyth), an ex-pro-hockey-player- turned-junior-banker, as he navigates the peculiar and surreal world of high finance and faces life’s meaning within this gilded cage.
The film also stars Zach Villa (“American Horror Story”), Jordyn Denning (“Pam & Tommy”), Ashwin Gore (“Shameless”), Helena Mattson (Seven Psychopaths), Trevor Gretzky (“Loudermilk”), Troy Garity (“Ballers”), Sam Daly (“The Office”) and Alyshia Ochse (“True Detective”).
‘Bull Run’ experience
On his “Bull Run” experience, Diamantopoulos exclaimed, “It was great! I had a great time man. It was directed by the brilliant Alfredo Barrios who just did a terrific job. He had a great vision for this movie from top to bottom.”
“I had an amazing time working with Tom Blyth,” he admitted. “He is such a good actor, a great leader of a set, and I just feel like people are going to remember the heyday of ‘90s independent films.”
“It has some actors that you have seen and some that you haven’t seen, and it just paints a beautiful picture, and the world is so well realized,” he elaborated.
“That’s what this film brings me back to… just this feeling of an awesome indie that’s engaging and funny,” he added.
While Diamantopoulos didn’t get a chance to work with Jay Mohr, he praised him for being “terrific” and noted that everybody on set that worked with him had a “great time” and he is “great in this movie.” “Our paths didn’t cross in the actual in the actual production,” he said.
Diamantopoulos on playing his villainous character
On playing his nefarious character named Masterson, Diamantopoulos said, “Well, look my character is a pretty vile, terrible, and awful human being. It’s a lot of fun to play. When you’re basically playing a completely irredeemable character, you really can’t do anything wrong.”
“So, that gives you a lot of freedom…it was very verbally dexterous and very physically engaged. I had a great time and a lot of fun,” he admitted. “We laughed a lot!”
Lessons learned from this screenplay
On the lessons learned from the “Bull Run” screenplay, Diamantopoulos shared, “It taught me that I like working with professionals who are clear about what their vision is for the movie, and that’s what it was when I when I read the script and when I talked with Alfredo.
“I knew I wanted to work with him because he had such a vision. He was so very clear about what he knew this movie needed to be and it was easy after reading it to decide to do it,” he explained.
“So, that was great. It’s not always like that. Sometimes, you read the script and you’re not quite certain, and then you talk to the director and then that helps but with this one the script was terrific,” he elaborated.
Future plans
On his future plans, he remarked, “I’m plugging away. I have a couple of shows that are coming out next yea; one is on Amazon and it’s called ‘Criminal,’ which I’m really looking forward to people seeing.”
“It’s going to be a really fun ride,” he admitted. “Then, I have a show called ‘Dark Matter’ for Apple TV. It already had its first season, and I am coming in as the Season 2 villain.”
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, Diamantopoulos responded, “I’ve got four kids. Hang on, I’m a lucky guy, but boy oh boy, am I tired?”
Career-defining moments
On his career-defining moments, he revealed, “Well, every moment helps define me. I mean I look at my kids. They teach me things every day. The last five years have been a real roller coaster in the industry and just in terms of how much has shifted and changed.”
“I think if anything, I’ve learned to just try to be in the moment and lower expectations and just try and be where you are,” he acknowledged.
Closing thoughts on ‘Bull Run’
“I’m thrilled that this movie found a theatrical release and a VOD release,” he said about “Bull Run.” “I think this is going to be great for people to see it.”
“A lot of movies that are done like this that are good, but they don’t get that opportunity, and a lot of the hard work doesn’t get to be shown. So, I think it’s important to live in the moment,” Diamantopoulos concluded.
