Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul LIVE: Boxing updates and fight result in Miami

Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul are on their way to the ring with their heavyweight showdown almost underway.

Britain’s two-time heavyweight champion Joshua takes on boxing’s disruptor-in-chief, the man who has been relentlessly calling out the sport’s biggest names for the last five years.

Paul, who has lost one of his 13 professional bouts, eased to victory over a 58-year-old Mike Tyson last year.

But Anthony Joshua is a very different sort of challenge. When Paul was still starring on the Disney Channel nine years ago, Joshua was picking up his first heavyweight world title. He has been one of the sport’s biggest names ever since.

Joshua hopes to become a three-time world champion in 2026. Paul hopes to halt those plans tonight by delivering what would surely be the biggest upset in boxing history.

Metro’s LIVE fight blog will bring you all the build-up, undercard action and minute-by-minute coverage of the main event tonight.

Paul vs Joshua | round 1

Paul is on his bike from the opening bell as Joshua stalks him slowly. Not much thrown from AJ early on, he tests his range with that jab with Paul keeping his distance.

Paul throws a bit overhand right and makes AJ miss with his follow-up effort.

There’s a spill midway through the round with both men left in a heap. Joshua lands a big right to the chest towards the end of the round but Paul scampers away before any more blows come in.

Say it quietly – Paul looks comfortable in there at the moment.

Will it be a repeat tonight?

Ringwalks up next

Not long to go now – it’s almost time for these two to make their way down to the ring.

Surely… surely, Anthony Joshua is not going to lose to Jake Paul?

What next for AJ if he wins?

Anthony Joshua wanted a low-key tune up fight after his 15-month break from the ring. Tonight isn’t exactly low-key but if he gets the win tonight, focus will immediately switch to big fights in 2026.

The Tyson Fury is once again on the table despite no world titles being part of that picture. Oleksandr Usyk still holds the WBC, IBF and WBA heavyweight belts with fellow Brit Fabio Wardley now holding the WBO strap.

There are big nights ahead. But it all goes away unless he gets the job done tonight.

Final preparations backstage

The main event is quickly approaching – shots backstage show Joshua and Paul going through some final warm-ups, loosening up with the opening bell now looming large.

We’ve gone the distance – the two embrace after a draining 12 rounds of action. Baumgardner has surely done enough here to defend the titles but credit to Beaudoin who has hung in there, keeping it competitive.

Beaudion rallies late on! A furious flurry forces Baumgardner into the ropes and the crowd comes alive. It’s the first time we have seen the champion in any trouble since the opening round, setting up a very interesting finale here.

‘Joshua worried’

MVP chief Nakisa Bidarian spoke on the Netflix broadcast a little earlier – revealing a member of Joshua’s team came down to the ring last night to record Paul going through his final warm-ups, sending the video directly to AJ.

A sign of nerves, or something completely normal and par for the course in fight preparation? We will let you decide.

Beaudoin is hanging in there, but she looks absolutely drained with Baumgardner still picking her shots at will.

Beaudoin is down at the end of the seventh! The accumulative damage she has taken across these three minute rounds takes its toll and Baumgardner drops her with a shot range right to the temple.

Beaudoin is very marked up as we reach the half way point of this fight and she is looking pretty fatigued. She is feeling the pace in this one and Baumgardner smells blood.

Can Joshua drive Paul out of boxing tonight?

For five years, Paul has been a thorn in the in the side of the boxing purist.

While there are plenty baying for blood and a swift knockout, former world champion Johnny Nelson suggests a long, torturous procedure will be just the ticket for Joshua tonight – possibly enough to drive Paul out of the sport for good.

He told Metro this week: ‘I don’t think the answer is the knockout. Anthony Joshua must take the chance to absolutely torture him in there as long as you can. Back off, then torture him again like a cat with a mouse, mentally, physically and emotionally. It might be the lesson Jake needs to learn.

‘Making him quit would be more damaging. If you’re a fighter and you have to live with quitting, it is not an easy thing to do. Joshua needs to show he is just far too dangerous for him. Who knows, maybe it will keep Jake in his lane going forward.’
