Atari Hotels Opens Its Doors to Investors for a Phoenix Comeback

Five years ago, Atari Hotels made a big splash about gaming-themed destinations planned throughout the United States. Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, and Austin were at the top of the list, and the renderings were showcased sleek buildings bathed in a retro arcade light that would make you feel right at home if you were a kid who spent your afternoons playing Pong and Asteroids. As with so many games, delays emerged out of nowhere, owing mostly to the pandemic.

Fast forward to 2025, and the project is again on the drawing board, but with a considerably tighter focus. Atari Hotels just announced a new approach, focusing on just one prime location in downtown Phoenix. Intersection Development, a business with a unique deal to utilize the Atari trademark, was able to get more than an acre of land in the thriving Roosevelt Row Arts and Entertainment District. The objective is to break ground in 2026 and open the place for business by mid-late 2028.

For those of us who reside in Phoenix, Roosevelt Row is well-known for its murals, galleries, and overall bustling atmosphere. So when they announced that the Atari Hotel would be erected near the junction of Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street, we knew it would fit right in. The designers at räkkhaus drew inspiration from some old-school films like Tron and Blade Runner. They included some sharp lines and lighting accents, as well as a few great homages to previous Atari classic games.

Guests can expect to find 72 regular rooms and 19 suites, which is an interesting reference to 1972, the year Atari initially launched. Each of the rooms will be outfitted with high-tech gadgets, as well as a location to create video material, also known as a creative studio for broadcasting or producing videos. For good measure, there’s a large 2,000-seat sports stadium where you can hold an esports tournament one night and a concert the next. Of course, there are numerous pubs / restaurants, as well as a variety of zones where you can mix and match games, music, and nightlife as you see fit. If you’re looking for anything to remind you of the good old days, there are retail stores where you can pick up a variety of retro items, along with a sportsbook for some betting action, and a huge pool for parties.

The highlight of all of this will be this incredible 4,000-square-foot penthouse apartment with its own private pool, spa, and sun terrace. The developers designed it particularly so that top artists, sportsmen, and influencers could rent it out for exclusive parties.

Of course, the money has to come from somewhere, so developers have already raised $14 million and are now aiming to generate an additional $35-40 million through a Regulation A+ equity offering, in which the general public can participate. Anyone can invest starting at $500, and if they do, they will receive true real estate ownership as well as some great rewards such as a few special hotel experiences. Of course, if you invest a little more, say $50,000, a custom brick in the esports arena’s walkway might be coming your way.

Atari has officially distanced itself from the project, enabling developers to utilize the name while retaining no interest or assurance in the venture. Of course, there are always risks with real estate efforts; schedules change, expenses rise, and so on, but the team behind this new project is relatively confident, thanks to their track record of successfully completing similar complexes in Phoenix.
