Singer-songwriter Matt Hansen chatted about his new pop single “Don’t Look Back.”

How did “Don’t Look Back” come about?

I have always had a hard time letting go of the past, and I wanted to write a song reminding myself to loosen my grip on those memories. Some things are better left in the rearview. 

What inspires your music and songwriting?

I love to expand on feelings I’ve had recently.  Some of the smallest moments can turn into the most impactful lessons and songs I’ve ever written.

I always try to be as honest and vulnerable as I can. 

How does it feel to be a part of the digital age?

I love the ability to promote my music at any time. If I love a song, I can immediately share it with my fans and see what they think.

It’s a beautiful time to connect with music and connect with people on a wide stage. 

What do your plans for the future include?

I’ve been working on a project for a long time now and I’m excited to put it out – stay tuned!

What is your advice for young and emerging artists?

Taking time to live and experience things is so important as a songwriter. You can’t write relatable songs if you aren’t living your life as well. It’s all about balance!

Which artists would you like to someday do a dream collab with someday?

Coldplay, Lewis Capaldi, Sam Fender, and Holly Humberstone.

What does the word success mean to you?

It’s being comfortable to pursue the things you love the most. There’s nothing more freeing and fulfilling than that.

What would you like to say to your fans/listeners about your new music?

The new songs I’ve been working on are the next chapter of my life.

I’ve been lucky enough to find a lot of hope around me and come to terms with the pain I’ve experienced.
