A 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) V-Spec, in the form of an extremely rare Tommykaira R-Z edition, is about to hit the auction block in Japan. This particular example has only 20,191 kilometers on the odometer, with a mere 2,000 of those added over the previous 15 years due to some extremely light use by its long-time owner.

Tommykaira started with a factory fresh V-Spec and then went all out with their tuning package. The bodywork has been rebuilt with a modified front end that has larger air intakes, enlarged fenders, longer side skirts, and a large fixed rear wing resting on aluminum uprights. Out front, an intercooler sits in the open, connected to intake ducts that feed the engine. Bilstein shocks are included in the suspension change, along with AP Racing six-pot calipers and customized rotors to slow you down. The wheels are 19-inch forged magnesium pieces finished in shining gold.

The engine is a modified RB26DETT that has been bored out to 2.7 liters, with a bespoke crankshaft and larger turbochargers. The end result is 530 horsepower, which is significantly higher than the factory figure. Inside, it’s all about keeping it functional, with custom seats with the Tommykaira emblem, an aluminum dashboard, a tuner-installed digital speedometer, a shift-up indicator light, and an aluminum gear knob topped with a Shippoyaki emblem.

The R-Z is Tommykaira’s flagship model for the R34 platform, with performance that makes the other R and R-S models appear mild in comparison. Production numbers were extremely low, in the dozens rather than thousands, and the R-Z is by far the rarest of the group. This automobile has been left in its original Tommykaira configuration, unchanged since it left the factory.
