Selfix Case Turns Your iPhone 17 Pro’s Back Into a Selfie Viewfinder

Selfie enthusiasts understand the frustration: front-facing cameras are simply inadequate. The new iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max have rear sensors with up to 48 megapixels apiece, which sounds fantastic, but what truly distinguishes them is their low-light performance and ultra-wide lens. Dockcase is attempting to bridge the gap with the Selfix, a protective case that adds a secondary screen to the back of your device.

Simply insert the iPhone into the Selfix, and a 1.6-inch AMOLED screen appears where the Apple logo previously existed. It measures 480 by 480 pixels and is more than sharp enough to provide a nice glimpse. It connects to the phone via the USB-C connector utilizing DisplayPort Alt Mode and simply replicates what the rear cameras observe. When you open the camera app and select selfie mode, the screen will light up, providing you with a live feed to work from. You can see the improvements for yourself: selfies are now clear and detailed, with the same degree of color fidelity as the primary 48-megapixel sensor. The ultra-wide camera allows for much larger group photos.

There is also a microSD slot concealed within Selfix that accepts cards up to 2TB. So, if you bought a base iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max, you can now simply insert one of those massive memory cards and instantly have room for thousands of high-resolution photographs and 4K videos without having to worry about monthly cloud fees. Plus, a second USB-C port allows you to charge the device at up to 100 watts, or just as quickly as it would without the case.

However, there are some drawbacks. The display consumes some of the iPhone’s battery life, so if you use it frequently, you can expect to get less runtime. It also makes the phone much larger, with the case adding around 8mm to its thickness. The basic Pro model is about 156 x 76 x 17 millimeters. .

Dockcase, the company that created all of those smart storage devices with built-in screens, plans to debut the Selfix on Kickstarter in 2026. In terms of price, expect to pay roughly $99, though early backers are likely to get it for a little less.
