Review: ‘Highway to the Moon’ short film by Letitia Wright of ‘Black Panther’

“Highway to the Moon” is a new short film that was written, produced, and directed by Letitia Wight of “Black Panther.” This marks her directorial debut.

The cast features Kenyah Sandy, Lamar Waves, Victor Prescott Jr, Aboulaye Touray, Sekou Toure, and Treva Etienne. It pays homage to young men, as it explores themes of brotherhood, faith, hope, trust, friendship, and living with loss.

“Highway to the Moon” raises awareness on mental health and youth violence with a moving storyline to it.

It is a coming-of-age fantasy drama that explores the mysterious aftermath of young boys whose lives have been abruptly snatched away.

Kenyah Sandy commands each scene he is in as Micah and he layers his emotions well; Lamar Waves is impressive as Trey, while Treva Etienne is devastating as Micah’s father.

Without giving too much away, ‘Highway to the Moon” deserved to be experienced by all.

Overall, “Highway to the Moon” is a powerful and visceral short film by Letitia Wright who is able to immerse her viewers in this fantasy “Purgatory” world.

This movie truly captured a deeply emotional story that puts the majority of the contemporary films to shame. It is bound to resonate with so many people on so many levels.

There was a rawness, honesty, and authenticity to it like no other. A few moments, in particular, will hit the audience like a shot in the heart.

This story is so personal to Letitia Wright (since it was inspired by true events of personal loss in her life), so she made this movie to raise awareness and the empower young viewers. It is evident that her directorial debut is a success.

Hopefully, this is a harbinger of more high-quality projects to come from Letitia Wright in the future. It is an Oscar-worthy short, and it garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
