Young actor Evan Fields chatted about starring in “The Wayfinders,” the original action series from Angel Studios.

The synopsis is: When three high schoolers are mysteriously transported to a fantasy world, they find themselves caught in a battle for survival.

With magic, monsters, and unexpected allies—including a fierce princess and a teenage werebear—the teens must navigate this strange new land.

As they search for a way home, they discover hidden strengths and face challenges that will test their courage like never before.

Fields portrays Flynn Griffin, one of three high school students who are mysteriously transported from their everyday lives into a fantastical new world.

Flynn is adventurous and loyal but is also constantly torn between what’s right and following what feels right.

Playing Flynn Griffin in ‘The Wayfinders’

Flynn becomes the emotional compass of the group, the one who grounds everyone when things start to fall apart.

His character arc starts from the journey of someone uncertain of who they are trying to grow into someone who believes in themselves and the people around them.

“I think what I liked most about Flynn was his growth,” he admitted. “Flynn starts off as someone who is unsure how he fits into the world and eventually discovers he’s more of a leader than he thought. I will say portraying Flynn taught me to live in the moment and to be confident in myself and my abilities.”

“Since we were filming on location in Ireland, ‘The Wayfinders’ quickly became unlike any project I’ve been apart of,” he said. “Plus, the relationships I’ve made with the cast and crew are incredible. I know they’ll last a lifetime.”

‘He’s All That’ experience

Regarding his experience making “He’s All That,” Fields stated, “My experience on ‘He’s All That’ was great. The highlight of the shoot for me was getting to film with the one and only Matthew Lillard.”

“I was going to ask if we should read some lines but he actually beat me to it and came to ask me. During the line reading, I’m thinking in my head, Is this real life right now?,” he elaborated.

Daily motivations

On his daily motivations, he shared, “Honestly, boredom! Being stagnant. The idea of waking up and feeling nothing new terrifies me.”

“Acting forces me to stay curious, stay uncomfortable, and be alive. Every day, I get to step into a different being and remember there’s always more to feel, more to learn, and more to experience. That’s the whole idea,” he explained.

The digital age

On being an actor in the digital age, he said, “It feels like it’s blessing and a curse. Streaming opened more doors, for sure!”

“It gave space for more stories to be made, more chances of more eyes to being able to watch these stories and follow the characters,” he said.

“Now, it feels like your online presence also has to be louder than your actual one, which I find unfortunate at times,” he added.

Advice for young and emerging actors

For young and aspiring actors, he said, “My advice would be to stay true, stay curious, and keep showing up. You’re always told to never give up, but they never tell you why you should never give up. You shouldn’t give up because you deserve to see how it ends.”

Success

On his definition of the word success, Fields said, “To me, success, is measured by peace and happiness, not by applause or followers. And success should also feel like you are aligned with what you love.”

Closing thoughts on ‘The Wayfinders’

For fans and viewers, he expressed, “The show ‘The Wayfinders’ is about discovering your purpose and finding meaningful friendships where you least expect them.”
